As I continued to stare at her, I couldn't help but notice the discomfort written on her face. Yet, I couldn't resist the urge to look at her. After all, my heart had been searching for her for so many years.

What's wrong with me, dammit?!

I forced myself to avert my gaze, trying to shake off the confusion overwhelming me. My feelings were a jumbled mess, making it impossible to think straight. Despite my efforts, my eyes found their way back to her, catching her as she ascended the stairs. Her anxiety was palpable, etched clearly on her face. Why was she behaving like this? She couldn't possibly still have feelings for me. Or could she?

The mere thought sent my heart racing, my mind spinning with possibilities. Could there still be a chance that she felt the same? The idea both thrilled and terrified me.

I scanned the room in search of Dad, hoping his presence might ground me, but he was nowhere to be found. I tried to focus on anything else—the murmured conversations, the clinking of glasses—but my thoughts kept drifting back to her, to the way she looked at me, to the past we shared.

Memories of our time together flooded my mind, each one bringing a fresh wave of emotions. Her laughter, the way her eyes sparkled when she was happy, the way she fit perfectly in my arms—it all felt so vivid, so close. And yet, there was also the pain, the betrayal, the heartache that had driven us apart. The push and pull of these conflicting emotions was tearing me apart.

Why is she behaving like this?

I wondered again. It was as if she was as conflicted as I was, her actions betraying a vulnerability I hadn't expected. My mind raced with questions and doubts, each one only adding to the chaos inside me.

At that moment, I realized I needed answers. I needed to understand why fate had brought us back together in such a twisted way.

With these thoughts running through my mind, I settled into a chair beside a round table, trying to make sense of the whirlwind of emotions. My thoughts were abruptly interrupted when I overheard two men engaged in a disgusting conversation.

"She is looking too hot today," one of them said, his tone laced with lewdness.

"Yeah, bro, hot and sexy," the other one replied, both of them laughing in a way that made my skin crawl.

"Do you think she's single?" the first man asked.

"Does it matter if she's single or not? You just want her in your bed," the second man replied, snickering.

"Yeah, that's true. But she's so hot, I don't think one night would be enough," the first man continued, their laughter echoing in my ears like nails on a chalkboard.

I felt a surge of anger rising within me. How dare they talk about her like that?

"The first time I saw her at that party, she was wearing a red dress. And today, again, in that damn red. Her neckline, her back, and her rosy lips... oh, I could hardly control myself," the first man said, his words dripping with sleaze.

I couldn't take it anymore. I turned to face them, my blood boiling.

Without a second thought, I grabbed the collar of the man who had spoken, and with all the fury pent up inside me, I punched him hard in the face. He stumbled and fell to the ground, blood trickling from his mouth. His friend received a hard slap across the face before I could be restrained.

"How dare you talk about my father like that?" I shouted, my voice shaking with rage. "And how dare you talk about her like that?"

People around us tried to pull me away, but I was relentless, driven by a need to defend her honor. I finally released him, letting go of his collar, and he crumpled to the floor.

Breathing heavily, I advanced towards the stairs, my mind clouded with anger and a protective instinct I hadn't felt in years. How dare they speak about her that way? How dare they disrespect my father? My fists were still clenched, my knuckles aching from the impact.

I had to find her. I saw her emerging from the washroom, and without a second thought, I strode toward her, pulling her into a nearby room. With a firm grip, I pinned her against the door, shock evident on her face.

"What are... you... doing...??" she stuttered, her voice trembling. I tightened my grip on both of her hands, feeling both her heartbeat and mine pulsating. I met her eyes, only to find loneliness there—no sparkle, just emptiness. Yet, she was still captivating.

"Leave me," she gritted, but I refused, tightening my grip further. I moved both her hands above her head with one hand, while the other began to remove her hairpins.

"Are you insane... what the hell are you doing?" she snapped, anger flashing in her eyes—a side of her I found oddly enticing. I ignored her protests, savoring the challenge. With one swift motion, I removed the last pin, allowing her hair to cascade down. Running my fingers through her silky strands, I inhaled her scent—it was still the same.

She remained frozen as I leaned closer, my gaze fixated on her lips. She was too innocent to realize the thoughts racing through my mind. Slowly, I descended toward her lips, her attempts to free herself failing against my relentless hold.

The air around us grew charged with tension, my desires driving me wild. But I had to stop myself—she wasn't mine to claim. The realization fueled my frustration, intensifying with each passing moment.

As I leaned in closer, she began to struggle again, her pleas echoing in the room. Ignoring her protests, I tightened my grip further, eliciting a cry of pain.

"It's hurting me, you... Devil," she shouted, her voice laced with anger.

I savored the name, relishing the power it conveyed. Releasing her, I took a step back, watching as she held her wrists, her gaze downcast.

"Don't wear these types of dresses again," I instructed firmly. She shot me a glare, her eyes ablaze with anger.

"Who the hell are y-"

"I don't like to repeat myself. You're not wearing this type of dress again," I interjected sharply, causing her to flinch.

"In your so-called dreams, Mr. Abid Abd, oh sorry Mr. Abid Zain Abdullah," she retorted, irritation evident in her voice, before turning to leave.

"I can take care of that then. See you soon... Miss Areena Rashid Khan," I replied with a smirk as she exited the room, the door closing with a resounding thud.

A smile spread across my face. She was no longer the innocent girl I once knew, and strangely, I found myself drawn to this new side of her—a side that held her ground, that sparked fire even in the face of my anger.

As I exited the room, I couldn’t help but scan the hall for her. There she was, standing beside my father, her long hair cascading down, covering her back and neckline. The marks on her wrists, a cruel reminder of my earlier grip, were stark against her pale skin. Guilt pricked at me, but it was overshadowed by a bewildering mixture of admiration and yearning.

The party continued around us, but my focus was solely on her. I watched as she gracefully interacted with the guests, her smile a facade masking the turmoil I knew she felt. I could see the tension in her shoulders, the slight tremor in her hands—signs only I would notice, having known her so well.

As the evening drew to a close, she left with her parents, her presence lingering in the air like a haunting melody. Her scent, a delicate blend of jasmine and something uniquely her, seemed to cling to me, wrapping around my senses and refusing to let go. Every inhale brought a flood of memories, of what once was and what could never be again.

I stood there long after she had gone, the room feeling emptier without her. My thoughts were a tangled mess of longing and frustration, of anger and regret. I knew sleep would be impossible tonight; her face, her voice, the feel of her against me—they would play on an endless loop in my mind.

As I finally left the hall, the weight of our encounter settled heavily on my shoulders. She was back in my life, unexpectedly and unavoidably, and I had no idea how to navigate the storm of emotions she brought with her.

But one thing was certain: Areena Khan was no longer a distant memory. She was here, real and formidable, and my heart, despite everything, still ached for her.
